Hey, I just got an idea: what if the people who love us had a user manual?

Every gadget comes with a user manual. Relationships don't.

So I thought: what if someone in a couple with a person with ADHD got one? With a Quick Start Guide on the first page (five rules, one minute to read), and a Troubleshooting chapter for the twenty situations that keep coming back: the lost keys, the half-finished job, the "you're not listening", the late fee, the forgotten anniversary.

That's how Congratulations, You're in a Couple with an ADHD Person got its subtitle: The User Manual.

It opens with something every partner of someone with ADHD deserves to hear: "Congratulations, you're in a couple with someone who has ADHD. Be welcome! You may have a lot of questions. This book is for you."

The most important chapter might be the one about the parent-child trap. That's the pattern where one partner slowly becomes the manager of everything, and the other starts to feel like a child. Couples therapist Melissa Orlov describes it as one of the most common patterns in these relationships (Orlov, 2010). The good news: once you can name it, you can get out of it.

Batteries not included. Patience recommended.
